Power Plant Humidity Control

A power plant, also known as a power station, is a plant that converts all the energy that can be used in nature into electricity. Most power plants generate electricity by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. Power plants, hydropower plants that rely on hydropower, and power plants that rely on solar (photovoltaic) and wind and tidal power, and nuclear fuel-fired nuclear power plants have played an increasingly important role in many countries around the world.


With the continuous development and follow-up of motor technology, there is more and more demand for electricity in production and life, and power plants are increasingly pursuing accuracy and efficiency, but the high moisture content in the air will affect the overall productivity of the power plant. In the power industry, many machines are very expensive, such as turbines, generators, boilers, condensers, etc., which start to rust and corrode during storage of equipment or during plant shutdowns and even during operation due to moisture buildup in the air. Too much moisture will accelerate the rate of corrosion, resulting in:

When the relative humidity in the air exceeds a critical level of 40%, the corrosion rate is accelerated. Industrial contaminants such as sulfur dioxide also increase the corrosion rate when relative humidity is above a critical level. Because for the machine, the more the surface is exposed to polluted air, the greater the relative humidity, which is detrimental to any machine in the power plant. The relative humidity of the power plant equipment should be kept between 15% and 30% during standby, and the temperature should be kept below 24 °C. When the humidity is lower than 35% during operation, the loss due to high humidity can be minimized. .


If the relative humidity of the area where the expensive equipment is stored can be limited to less than 40%, then all generators (such as generators, turbines and their components) can be kept in good condition for immediate start when needed. The best way to control relative humidity is to use an industrial dehumidifier.


Dehumidifier dehumidification is to remove air by removing moisture from the air. Removing moisture from the storage area reduces the relative humidity of the entire area, effectively preventing corrosion and microbial growth. Proper dehumidification during turbine storage ensures minimal deterioration of all internal systems.


An idle power plant can effectively protect against corrosion by releasing dry air on the steam side and next to the generator windings. Dehumidified air protects non-nuclear components such as nuclear power plants, condensers, and turbines from nuclear power plants when they are shut down for fuel. In a fossil-fueled power station, it may be due to excessive humidity caused by repair of the furnace or boiler, or excessive moisture due to cheaper backup power. Regardless of the cause of excessive moisture, the dehumidifier can be used to prevent rust and other harmful conditions
